My 2023 travel adventures were full of fun and savings thanks to points and miles (sometimes called travel hacking or reward travel). If you want to travel more and spend less, take a look at my recommended travel credit cards. I charge all my monthly expenses on my cards and pay them off weekly so there is no balance and no interest paid.

February: My United Airlines miles took me to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida costing me $11.20 for a round trip ticket. The United℠ Explorer Card gives me a free checked bag, priority boarding, and two free passes annually to their airport lounge making the $95 annual fee worth it to me.

February: My United Airlines miles took me to Denver, Colorado costing me $11.20 for a round trip ticket.

March: Paid $400 for my round trip flight to Lisbon, Portugal; my Airbnb cost $27 a night. Don’t want to use points and miles when it’s cheaper to use cash. This was a rare find, but discovered it on Google Flights.

May: My points paid for a stay at the Hyatt Centric Times Square, New York City. The cost for the stay for 3 nights was $0. The room would have cost more than $400 a night.

June: My points paid for a stay at the Hyatt Place, Chicago for Gay Pride. The cost for the stay for 3 nights was $0. The room would have cost more than $200 a night.

June: My points paid for me to stay at the Holiday Inn in Indiana to visit family. The cost of one night was $0. The IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card is worth the $99 annual fee when considering the free annual room and when booking with points, the fourth night is free.

July: Stayed at an Airbnb in Denver. Bought an Airbnb gift card at Staples using my Ink Business Cash® Credit Card which earns 5xs the points for each dollar at office supply stores.

September: My United Airlines miles took me to Denver, Colorado costing me $11.20 for a round trip ticket.

October: My American Airlines miles took me to Miami, Florida costing me $11.20 for a round trip ticket. Stayed at Marriott’s Sheridan Hotel for Caribbean Virgin Cruise. The cost of the hotel cost me $12.00.

December: Using my miles from Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card, I booked a business class ticket for $275. Taking me from Chicago to Munich, Germany for a Danube River cruise to visit the Christmas markets. Stayed 2 nights at the beautiful Hyatt Andaz Munich for $0. Saved me over $430 a night. My miles on United Airlines in economy cost me $118

I used a combination of travel cards to make these trips happen including the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card which is my most frequently used card with Hyatt and United transfer partners. The other card I keep handy is the Capital One Venture Rewards which earns me 2xs points per dollar on all purchases.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Dublin, Ireland are planned for 2024. Where will your points and miles take you this year? Looking for a new credit card? Consider one of my recommended cards here.
